LCCI steps up CSR initiatives

Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(LCCI) has stepped up its efforts at uplifting the society through provision of
free social amenities.
The chamber recently donated chairs
to some public hospitals in Lagos as part of its corporate social activities. The
hospitals are Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Igbobi Hospital and General Hospital.
A statement released by LCCI chamber
said that the Head of Corporate Services of LUTH, Hope Nwawolo, commended the
chamber for the gesture.
“Ms Okanlawon of LASUTH, Ikeja, who
also wrote on behalf of the hospital’s chief medical director, stated that the contribution
will not go unrecognized and will receive recognition at the appropriate
opportunity,” the statement added.
LCCI, the oldest chamber of commerce
in sub-Saharan Africa, is also a partner with Leap Africa, the organizers of a mentoring
programme which is ongoing in Lagos.
The programme is targeted at young,
aspiring and established enterpreneurs with the aim of linking them with
mentors who would assist them to grow.
So far, a 3-day Personal Development
Workshop and a 4-week Business Development Training has been held for mentees
since the beginning of the year, said Tope Oluwaleye, LCCI spokesman.
Oluwaleye said the chamber embarked
on the CSR activities to make its impart more relevant in the society and
complement its advocacy role for businesses.
The Chamber was founded in 1888 to
facilitate a conducive environment for its members and businesses generally
through policy advocacy and engagement of the relevant authorities on matters
affecting entrepreneurs.
